Awarding Bodies
These were previously known as examination boards.
The change in name reflects the move towards assessment during
the courses as well as examinations at the end.
The qualification framework set by the
QCA is put into action by the awarding bodies.
These are the organisations that design, produce, administer
and mark exams in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. |
 |
| |
| They
compete only in terms of service and quality, as the content
of papers is strictly regulated by the QCA. In England,
the three awarding bodies are AQA,
EDEXCEL
and OCR,
with WJEC
operating mainly in Wales, SQA,
the Scottish Qualifications Authority, and CCEA
having responsibility for Northern Ireland. |
